The Power of Execution: Why Knowing What to Do Isn’t Enough—and How to Actually Get Things Done

“If you just did all the shit you already know you should be doing, but aren’t, you’d be 10x times further than you are right now.”

That hits hard because it’s true.

We all have a list of things we know we should be doing—whether it’s tasks, strategies, or changes—but somehow, they keep getting pushed to the side.

By the way, you do know who I quoted above, right? I think it’s obvious. If you’ve been reading my blogs, then you have to know I quote only and ONLY one person—Alex Hormozi.

His straightforward wisdom cuts through the noise and gets straight to the point.

Why Do We Struggle with Execution?

So, why do we find it so difficult to act on what we already know? Here’s your answer:

  • Facing a massive to-do list can be paralyzing. When everything feels urgent, it’s easy to get stuck in a cycle of avoidance - aka Overwhelm

  • Waiting for the perfect moment or the perfect plan often leads to inaction. Fear of making mistakes can keep us from moving forward - aka Perfectionism

  • Without someone or something to hold us accountable, it’s easy to let things slide - aka Lack of accountability

  • Daily distractions and low-priority tasks often take up more time than they should, leaving little room for the important stuff - aka Distractions

When we don’t act on what we already know, we stay stagnant. The gap between our current state and our goals widens.

This inaction can lead to missed opportunities, frustration, and a sense of being stuck. Ironically, the answers are often right in front of us—if only we would act on them.

But don’t we all know this already?

You’ve probably heard a mindset coach or productivity guru saying something similar, and yet you’re still “stuck.”

I’m not going to dive into a list of steps on how to take action. I have a feeling you know them already. What’s often missing isn’t the information; it’s the execution.

Here’s the thing: knowing what to do isn’t the hard part.

Actually doing it—that’s where the rubber meets the road. It’s about getting real with yourself and making the tough choices. It’s about acknowledging that you’ve been avoiding the things you need to tackle and understanding why you’re stuck.

  • Are you procrastinating because you’re afraid of failing or making a mistake?

  • Is the comfort of inaction easier than the risk of change?

  • Are you overwhelmed by too many tasks and not sure where to start?

The truth is, to get out of this rut, you need to face these hard truths head-on. It’s not about more strategies or tools—it’s about a shift in mindset and commitment. Here’s how you can start:

  • Admit to yourself what you’ve been avoiding and why.

  • Focus on one thing that will make the biggest impact and commit to it.

  • Start with small, manageable steps to build momentum.

  • Find a way to track your progress and stay committed.

You really don’t need another checklist or productivity hack.

What you need is to stop avoiding what you know you should be doing and start taking action. Remember, the gap between knowing and doing is where your real growth happens.

So, what’s one thing you’ve been putting off that you know could make a huge difference? It’s time to stop talking and start doing.
